Headlines June 11/12, 2011
Vikings 1st XI-WCL:
Vikings bowling led by Jawid Aryubi who destroyed Nitro batting lineup
with figures of 7.1-0-38-6 to restrict the opposition for only 96 runs.
He was well supported by the rest of the bowlers with Shabir Adrali
taking 2 wickets. As it is the norm, we just couldn't win the game
without some drama. At the end Vikings came out victorious with Sunil
Pathak scoring 27 run to give Vikings their 5 consecutive victory.
Vikings 2nd XI-WMCB:
What an effort by Vikings 2nd XI against Columbia CC. Vikings batted
first and scored only 95 runs. In reply Columbia were cruising
comfortably at the 10 over break with the score 48/2. Then the beast in
Omar Khan woke up who had the Columbia batsmen more interested in
protecting their body instead of wickets. He bowled with extreme pace
and control to have them 81/8. He was well supported by Ihsan Haq and
Abdul Waziry who chipped in with vital wickets. The fielders supported
the bowlers very well, but Vikings came in short at the end losing by 2
wickts. Vikings might have been the loser, but it was a game that
everyone enjoyed thoroughly. Looking forward to these young guns
continuing learning and improving their game in the coming games.
Seniors-WCL-5/8/11:
Vikings beat Virginia by 1 wickets. The bowlers led by Mohammad Rizwan
and Ammar Khan bowled with exceptional control and pace to restrict
them to 84/10 in 34.2 overs. Both ended up taking 3 wickes apiece. In
their reply the batsmen barely crossed the line to register their
first win.
Vikings Seniors-WCL-5/1/11:
Vikings lost their season opener by 4 wickets to Washington Tigers.
Tigers bowlers especially Imran Awan bowled with excellent pace and
control which made life miserable for Vikings batsmen and ended up all
out for 88. Vikings bowlers did well to take 6 of their wickets with
Mohammad Rizwan and Ammar Khan taking 2 wickets apiece. The result
could have been different if Vikings didn't drop three of Tigers catches
or had 20-30 more runs on the board.
Vikings-Juniors-WMCB-5/7/11:
Vikings lost to Trindies by 143 runs. Trindies batted well to post 208
on a sluggish pitch. In reply, Vikings batsmen failed to apply and
folded on 65.
Vikings-Juniors-WMCB-4/30/11:
Vikings beat Crescent by 5 wickets. Ahmer Qureshi, Fahad Siddiqui,
Raja Rizwan, and Fahad Qureshi batted beautifully to successfully chase
down 203 in 39 overs. The bowling was led by Attaullah Nasib who ended
up taking 3 wickets.
News-4/15/11:

Vikings as well, has good pace) and Furqan Salim(played couple games for

Amit Sharma batted fluently with three huge sixes to take Vikings total to 144 with the help of 15 penalty runs. Vikings bowlers led by Jawid Arybi (4-0-20-2wkts) and Waleed Aslam(4-0-20-2wkts) bowled beautifully to defend a low target and that at a small ground. They were well supported by Sunil Pathak(4-0-26-3wkts), Shabir Adrali, and Nasir Durrani
WMCB-Round Robin.vs.Damascus-10/2/10: Vikings beat Damascus for the second time in three weeks to retain division I position. Fahad Qureshi scored a beautiful 100 that was a treat to watch on a slow pitch with heavy outfield along with extremely long bounaries. Fahad scored only 2 boundaries in his inning which goes to say something about his inning. He was well supported by Furqan Siddiqui(23 runs) when Vikings were in a little trouble at 30/3. Imran Amin(38 runs) and Waleed Aslam(29 runs) provided the late fire-works to take the target to 248/8 in 45 overs. The heavy outfield, extremely long boundaries, and the pitch along with excellent fielding and bowling by Vikings were too much for Damascus to overcome and as a result they were all out for 93 in 30 overs. Congratulations Fahad Qureshi on your first 100 and hopefully many more will come. Excellent execution of game plan in the last two games against Damascus and we all can learn alot from the way our batsmen played in these two games by playing their full quota of 45 overs in each inning.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WMCB-Round Robin.vs.Damascus-9/18/10: Vikings beat Damascus by 56 runs. Tariq Qureshi played an excellent inning of 97 to take Vikings to 240/8 in 45 overs. Shabir Adrali and Wali Sayed made lives miserable for Damascus batsmen as they folded for 184 but the game was over well before that.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WCL-Division II-Championship.vs.Baltimore-9/12/10: The possibility of the game happening was not that great on a day that saw rain until 1:30 pm. But despite the constant drizzling the ground staff was able to start the game at around 2:30pm in wet conditions, hats off to their efforts. With the game reduced to 25 overs, Vikings restricted Baltimore to 139/9 with Nasir Durrani taking 4 wickets. The odds were on Vikings side as the ground has gotten little better as the sun tried to pierced itself through the clouds without much luck. Vikings got off to a flier with Mirwais Aryubi (29 runs) and Deepak Pathak (43 runs) putting 62 in the first 7 overs. Vikings were 82/3 in 13 overs, and needed 57 more runs from 72 balls. But after that the wet and heavy ball didn't help matter as batsmen tried to play expensive shots as singles were fogotten and runs became harder as wickets were lost regularly. The last two overs provided a thrilling finish, as 22 were needed from 2 overs with one wicket remaining. Sajid Shah and Shabir Adrali provided a great fightback as each hit a six to leave Vikings needing 7 from the last over. Sajid Shah looked confident to finish the game but a slow ball brought his fall as Vikings lost an exciting and thrilling match by 5 runs, enjoyed equally by the players and crowd. Great effort throughout the season by Vikings, and looking forward to this team giving tough times to the top teams in division I next season.
WMCB-Round Robin.vs.Washington-9/11/10: Vikings crushed Washington by 10 wickets as they scored the required target of 74 in just 7 overs, as Mirwais Aryubi (30 runs) and Waleed Aslam (38 runs) hit bowlers to all parts of the ground to finish the game early. Earlier Rana S Sadaat(Shami) led the attack beautifully with taking 4 wickets to restrict Washington to just 74 runs. He was well supported by Shabir Adrali who bowled toe crushing yorkers with ease taking 3 wkts, Waleed Aslam bowling 6 overs for just 5 runs, and Ihsan Haq who ended up taking 2 wkts.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WCL-Playoffs-Semi-final vs.Hunters-Aug 29,10: Vikings sealed division I spot, beating Hunters by 122 runs, in its inaugural season in WCL with amazing batting performance by Sunil Pathak who scored an excellent inning of 75 Not Out. He was well supported by Mirwais Aryubi and Nail Miakhel who scored 38 runs each to take the score to 236/8 in 40 overs. In response Vikings bowling led by Nasir Durrani displayed excellent pace, control, line and length to make life miserable for Hunters Batsmen. Nasir Durrani bowled an excellent spell of 5-1-7-1, he was well supported by Jawid Aryubi, Shabir Adrali, Waleed Aslam, and Sunil Pathak. Vikings will play Division II Championship game against Baltimore on Sept 12, 10. Vikings seem eager to secure the championship and carry the momentum to division I next year.
WMCB-Round Robin-Aug 29, 10: Vikings lost to UCC by 7 wickets, Details to follow.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WCL-Playoffs-Quarter-final: (Vikings Vs Falcons) Vikings beat Falcons by 60 runs to give itself a great chance of qualifying for division I in its first year in WCL. Vikings batted 1st and scored 155 on a pitch that offered swing and some bounce for bowlers. This target was possible due to excellent batting by Jawid Aryubi who played a responsible captain's inning and Tariq Qureshi to give us a reasonable target to defend. And defend we did as Nasir Durrani ripped through Falcons batting line-up by taking first 5 wickets in his first 5 over spell. Jawid Aryubi, Shabir Adrali, Waleed Aslam, and Sunil Pathak supported Nasir well as they weren't in any mood of giving runs, as a result Falcons folded for 95 in 32 overs. Vikings will play Hunters in semi-final for one of the promotion to division I. GO VIKInGS.... Scorecard

Wali Sayed bowled with great control to give only 12 runs in 7 overs. Vikings scored the required runs without a fuss with Fahad Siddiqui finishing the game in style with quick 28 runs. It's great to see Fahad Siddiqui improving with each game and the future looks bright for the team.
News-WCL-1st XI-Aug 1, 10: Vikings lost to Fighters by 94 runs. Fighters scored 211/9 in 40 overs. Vikings lost quick wickets on the top and their inning didn't get going as a result of that and were all out for 117 runs.
News-WMCB-2nd XI-August 1, 10: Vikings restricted Warriors to 152 with excellent bowling by Zia Miakhkel, Furqan Siddiqui, and Nail Miakhel. All three of them took 3 wickets each. Vikings inning started well, but an hour break due to rain affected concentration of the batsmen as Vikings ended up 62/7 with plenty of overs. Thereafter, Tariq Miakhel and Fahad Siddiqui brought the game in Vikings favor by batting beautifully to take the total to 122/7 in 30 overs. But Fahad was caught behind and lost the next 2 wickets in quick succession to get all out for 124 losing by just 28 runs.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
News-WCL-1st XI-July 24, 10: Vikings beat Omnitech by 90 runs in extrememly hot conditions. Everyone who played on this weekend deserves a pat on the back for their efforts. Vikings won the toss and decided to bat first. Mirwais Aryubi scored a quick 60 with some clean hitting and sending the fielders to all parts of the ground. There was a mini collapse but Vikings recovered well to take the score over 307/9 in 35 overs. Nail Miakhel scored a patient 70, Mohammad Amir who played his first game with Vikings scored 42 runs. He played beautifully with some big hitting. Vikings bowled with great spirit and energy in the beginning of the inning and dismissed their top 5 batsmen without a problem. Thereafter, bowlers couldn't get their 6th wicket although 6 dropped catches didn't help the matter. Eventually the order was restored as Shabir Adrali and Sajid Shah bowled with great energy at the end to dismiss the opposition in 35 overs for 217.
News-WMCB-2nd XI-July 24, 10:Vikings lost to Washington by 145 runs. Washington scored 204/8 in 35 overs. The target wasn't going to be easy after fielding in extremely tough conditions and as a result were bowled out for just 59 runs.

News-WCL-1st XI-July 11, 10: Vikings beat Sri Lankan cricket club by 80 runs after a week of no cricket due to 4th of July weekend. It was a beautiful day for cricket at the start which turn out to be a warm day later during the game. Vikings won the toss and elected to bat first. The inning didn't have a good start as Fahad Qureshi was caught in the first over. Despite the early loss, Tahir Ali had other ideas as he smashed the bowlers to all parts of Bucklodge field. While he was hitting everything, Nail Miakhel smartly rotated the strike with ease and fully supported Tahir's inning that was a treat to watch. He got out after playing a beautiful inning of quick 65 with clean hitting that included eleven 4s and one 6, while the score was 102/2 in 11 overs. Nail was joined by Waleed Aslam who batted with the only way he knows how as he took over Tahir's job of hitting the bowlers. Meanwhile Nail continued to rotate the strike, but a moment of brain freeze, with the score 186/2 in 24 overs, resulted in Nail's dismissal as he was out for a well made 47 which included only one boundry. Waleed played an inning of 53 that included six 4s and two 6s. The stage was set for the rest of the batsmen to build on the excellent start provided by Tahir, Nail, and Waleed. Instead, Vikings ended up from 228/4 in 29 overs to 243/9 in 31 overs. This was due to God knows what, it looked like they were batting in the last over of their lives as they played rash and stupid shots to hand over their wickets in gift boxes to the opposing team. In only two overs, 5 wickts were lost and let me tell you they weren't tail-enders. Those who got out were our senior batsmen and players who are much better than what they showed. Their short comings were hidden by an excellent inning by our number 9 and number 11 batsman. Nasir Durrani came in at 11 and along with Sajid Shah who came in at 9 showed their senior teammates how to bat with brain and plan as they put in a partnership of 61 runs in 8 overs to take the score to 304/10 in 39 overs. Nasir Durrani played an excellent inning of 45 runs full of patience and clean hitting. He was fully supported by Sajid Shah who made a well deserving 19 runs. The total was going to be a challenging one for SLCC as our bowlers put the pressure on constantly by chipping in with wickts at regular interval until the game went into boredom as the game was over long before the 40 overs when the score was 161/6 in 30 overs. To their credit the last four wickets almost played full quota of their inning as they were all out in 38.4 overs. All the bowlers bowled excellently despite the hot weather. Jawid Aryubi and Sajid ended with two wickets each. Shabir Adrali bowled beautifully but was unfortunate to get only one wicket. Nasir Durrani bowled with great pace to end with 3 wickets along with his 45 valuable runs. Great win apart from the collapse, hopefully we all can learn from Nasir Durrani's excellent inning of playing with patience/brain and hitting 4s instead of 6s as last I heard 4s do count.
News-WMCB-2nd XI-July 10, 10: Vikings game vs Maryland was abandoned due to rain. Vikings play Windes in their next game on July 18, 2010 at Kenmore ground.

News-WCL-1st XI-June 27, 10: Despite the temperature rising to 100° F during the day, Vikings put in a spirited performance to beat Metro II by 5 wkts. After losing a crucial toss Vikings bowlers and fielders did really well in tough conditions to get Metro II all out for 195 runs in 38.5 overs. Waleed Aslam and Jawid Aryubi ended up with 3 wkts each. Knowing the weather was extremely hot, Vikings were confident of chasing the target easily as it wasn't going to be easy to field with the temperature hitting close to 100° F. Vikings lost 2 quick wickets, but that was the only setback as Sunil Pathak and Tahir Ali played with patience and style to take Vikings to within touching distance of the winning total. Sunil Pathak and Tahir Ali scored well deserving 62 runs and 48 runs, respectively in very tough conditions. Waleed Aslam scored quick 23 runs to take Vikings even closer to the target. At the end Ammar Khan and Imran Amin knocked off the remaining 20 odd runs to give Vikings a comfortable win in 31.5 overs.
News-WMCB-2nd XI-June 26, 10: Vikings 2nd XI didn't play their game against Damascus due to unfortunate circumstances as Damascus were not aware of their schedule. Vikings won through forfeiture after waiting one hour in extremely hot weather, as a result both teams and the players were robbed off a competitve game as both teams were looking forward to facing each other as usual.

News-WCL-1st XI-June 7, 10: Vikings had to play back to back games against Elite and Falcons on June 5 and 6, respectively in extremely hot weather. Our second game against Falcons was rained out but not before Deepak Pathak's scored a quick 52 to take Vikings to 126/4 in 20 overs. In our first game we beat Elite CC by 156 runs in very unfavorable weather which tested everyone's fitness level. Vikings won the toss and set up a huge target of 275 for 4 wickets in 40 overs. Imran Amin was outstanding who played one of the memorable innings for Vikings that will be remembered by everyone for his patience and fitness level by opening the inning and coming Not Out at the end. Imran scored a wonderful inning of 75 not out, but Waleed Aslam took the center stage by blasting opposing bowlers to all parts of Bucklodge field through the air and on the ground. He scored one of the fast century in our club history and one of the cleanest hitting display one will witness. Sunil Pathak supported Imran Amin well by scoring 39 runs in his usual calm manner. Vikings bowlers, especially Nasir Durrani who ended up with only 2 wkts but deserved more and Ammar Khan getting 3 wkts, bowled beautifully with extreme pace and line to give Vikings a comfortable win at the end. Sunily Pathak supported the bowlers well with his off-spins and took 3 wkts along with his 39 runs.
News-WMCB-2nd XI-June 7, 10: Vikings lost its first game of the season in WMCB to VA Lions by 147 runs. Nevertheless, they showed signs of promise and would surely benefit from this loss. They started well by having Lions at the backfoot by reducing them to 45/3 in 10 overs. But their senior players eventually and the lack of experience showed by Vikings bowlers and dropped chances took them to 250/9 in 45 overs. Vikings batting flopped and ended up 103 all out. With all the major teams losing in the first week, Vikings is still in the race of WMCB league championship and would put up better performances in the coming games to match the performances of their 1st XI
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
News-WCL-May 22, 10: Vikings1st XI showed great batting display against AFCA on a slow turning pitch which made scoring harder. Despite the slow pitch everyone batted beautifully with a purpose to set a challenging total of 263/7 in 40 overs. Vikings lost its first wicket early in the 2nd over before Tahir Ali (41 runs) and Nail Miakhel (114 runs, playing a memorable inning for him and the team by playing 39 overs) put up an excellent 2nd wicket partnership, taking the score to 79/2 in 15 overs. Imran Amin (21 runs) and Furqan Siddiqui (13 runs) batted well and played important roles to set up the stage for a late onslaught. Vikings were 147/4 in 29 overs before Nail and the in form Waleed Aslam (44 runs) decided to blast the bowling to all parts of the ground with great effect to set up a target of 263. AFCA started well but lost 3 quick wickets ending up 52/3 in 10 overs before the rain came and took the center stage. Once again, a great batting performance and great to see everyone playing well. Hopefully we will continue to improve on our performances and play even better in the coming games. Our next assignment is against Elite CC on Bucklodge field. GO VIKINGS...
News-WMCB-May 26, 10: Vikings 2nd XI to open its 45 over competition against VA Lions on June 5 at Oxon Hill. Everyone enjoyed T20 competition and now they are eager to perform better in 45 over competition. They will go through rebuilding and learning phase as almost all of them will be playing their first full season since we decided to field our 1st XI team in WCL this year.
